SPEED DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS
As you advance through this programme, you will enter a stage focused on speed development. These sessions are essential to your growth as an athlete and play a crucial role inration. your race prep
There are a few key points to understand before you begin. First, do not fixate on session structure. The design of each session will ultimately be dictated by the terrain and elevation available to you and in this context, longer is not always better. Use what you have. The goal is to identify a trail that you know well, can access consistently, and that challenges you enough to push your boundaries. Your singular objective each run is simple: go faster than the last.
This is also an excellent time to cross-reference the suspension and bike setup section of this programme. Small adjustments to your setup can have a meaningful impact on your times, and these sessions give you the ideal environment to test those changes under real conditions.
A speed development tracker sheet has been provided within this section for you to log your runs and monitor your progress week to week. This is not optional, it is a tool for critical self-analysis, and using it consistently will accelerate your development far beyond simply riding laps.
After each session, ask yourself the following:
Why was I fast?
Why was I slow?
Was there an issue with my bike setup or suspension?
Was my nutrition adequate before and during the session?
Was my mental performance where it needed to be?
The ability to critically evaluate your own performance honestly and consistently is what separates developing athletes from truly competitive ones. Use every run as data. Use every session as an opportunity to learn.
